Nice and good evening, ladies and gentlemen. No, you don't have to be afraid, we are not going to learn you how to dance the charleston, and honestly speaking we even don't know how to dance it. We would like to welcome you, though, to the listening of the oldies, out of which a number arouses already nostalgic reminiscences only, or an indulgent smile. Today, one can hardly imagine oneself into the period where a radio set was possesed by few chosen, TV didn't exist and films were, unfortunately, still silent. Only carriers of modern pop-music were turntables and music bands, or miscellaneous, more or less familiar songsters, performing in cafés, clubs, theatres, or in, at that time a fashionable novelty, cabaret. The young listeners, who are today, almost at every step and from all sides without problems surrounded by music of any sort, can only hardly imagine themselves into the atmosphere, where something like that was far from being so matter-of-course. As everywhere in Europe also in our country the new sort of popular music was felt as something foreign and implanted into the domestic tradition. It took a long time before people learnt how to listen to the new music whose impulses lay over the ocean and domestic composers and performers more or less invested them with a becoming jacket of a domestic cut. However, let us abandon the theorising and at last we could reveal to you what we have prepared for you for today. It is six personages, who have left most distinguished traces in the history of our popular music, some interesting things from their lives and of course, that we haven't forgotten music samples. Listening to the original historical recordings we have to tolerate at times even some imperfections, that have been caused by the fact that the original matrices haven't been preserved and therefore the period recordings have had to be necessarily copied from more or less used, old original recordings, as our goal is to present only authentic originals…

VETERANDISCO II (1988)
a further audio-visual programme, utilising an original period technique and authentic recordings, devoted to the personages who have left most distinguished traces in the history of our popular music.
After the end of World War II nearly a twenty-year long period of performing of the Vlach's Orchestra in the ABC Theatre together with Jan Werich started. In the 1950's the Orchestra is not allowed to play outside the Theatre and nobody knows why. It is a period of reflections about a new message of pop-music. Under the given circumstances it is a revolutionary process, in which, besides its overall positive trend and impact, some mistakes also appear. In this case it is an one-idea'd negative way of looking at jazz, and unfortunately, however, chiefly at its American origin… This period of seeking of new development trends of pop-music was overbridged by Karel Vlach with his recording of Jaroslav Ježek's production from the Osvobozené divadlo, like for example the song by Jan Werich from the play "Kat a blázen (The Executioner and the Fool) --- Šaty dělaj člověka (Fine Feathers Make Fine Birds) he sang together with Jiří Voskovec in 1934.
On February 26, 1986, one famous chapter of Czech jazz, modern pop-music and the original song writing of Czech authors is definitively closed. The heart of the man who devoted all his life solely and exclusively to music beat its last. The Orchestra needs only two years to its unbelievable fifty-year existence. What to say by way of conclusion? Perhaps one thought of his, which always has been, is and will be valid: "A life with music ain't easy but it is beautiful!"
With the Farewell Waltz we also are parting with you and hopefully we will meet again to recall to our minds in our "Veteran-discotheque" how that all actually started and what preceded what is called nowadays a modern popular music as we know it and listen to nowadays. Když si člověk poslechne desku Vladimíra Mišíka a skupiny Etc.. "Stříhali dohola malého chlapečka", stávají se pro něj zcela bezpředmětné veškeré diskuze o tom, zda může být i populární hudba uměním, nebo zda je pouze pokleslým žánrem. Podobně i otázka spojení moderní populární hudby s básnickým textem, s literaturou v té nejryzejší podobě. Je to balada o přistřižené touze bezbranného dítka, bohatě metaforická báseň, takové malé drama v kostce, nesnadno sdělitelné jinými než básníkovými slovy. Je to svět malé, dětské a nechápající úzkosti, do nějž se asociativně prolíná svět dospělý, zkušený a skeptický. Tato píseň dostala folkrockovým impulsem Vladimíra Mišíka umocněnou působivost...

Obraz 1. Vesnická diskotéka Blikají barevná světla, silně nakouřeno, hlučná a rychlá hudba, titulková montáž. Po jejich skončení začne uvádět koktající diskžokej pomalou skladbu, sem tam přeskakuje deska. Střídavé záběry na tančící páry: Velmi vysoká s malým partnerem, lesbičky, tlustý pár, dva homosexuálové a jiné karikatury. Chlapci se pohybují se silně ztopořenými údy, zřetelně se rýsujícími přes kalhoty, dívky zase pohazují vystrčenými zadečky, naditými v krátkých šortkách či přiléhavých minisukních a z hlubokých výstřihů jim vylézají kyprá poprsí. Všichni se silně potí. Záběr na samostatně tančící dívku Blanku, která se zahledí směrem ke vchodu do sálu a zpozorní. Ve dveřích stojí voják, a od ostatních návštěvníků se liší tím, že je o něco starší, také o něco větší a hlavně fešák. Zkušeným okem hodnotí situaci - není ji zrovna nadšen. Blanky si nevšimne. Skrz tančící dav se prodírá k baru, kde zaujme místo vedle pěkné, byť tak trochu kypré dívky, Mileny. Navazují spolu hovor, který však zaniká v hluku diskotéky. Vojákovi se dívka zjevně líbí, taktéž dívce se voják zamlouvá a vine se k němu. Z davu se k nim protlačuje Blanka, staví se mezi ně a ptá se kypré dívky:
